Fal Day collects as little personal data as possible. This page explains what we collect, what we do not collect, and who your data is shared with. The same rules apply to the iPhone (App Store) and Android (Google Play) versions.
You control your leaderboard visibility. Game leaderboards show your first name and last-name initial (e.g. “Yusuf G.”) with your profile photo or an avatar made of your initials. You can become a “Hidden player” with a single tap (see “Game leaderboards” below).
Content photos you upload are not stored. Photos you upload for the app's photo-based text content (called “readings” in the app; may not be offered in every version or on every platform) are deleted from our servers as soon as the content is ready. Only the text stays in your history. Location and camera data (EXIF) are removed from the photo before it leaves your phone.
Data we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Anonymous device ID | To recognize your account. We do not ask for email or phone |
| Your name | To address you by name in the app and to show a shortened form (first name and last-name initial) on game leaderboards. Asked during onboarding; you can use a nickname and remove it later in Profile |
| Date of birth; time and city of birth (optional) | To enforce the 13+ age limit, and to calculate astrology-themed content such as your sun sign and birth chart. Time and city of birth are used only for that calculation |
| Gender, relationship status, area of focus | To personalize app content. Chosen during onboarding; gender and relationship status include a "prefer not to say" option |
| What you write for text content (e.g. a question, a dream description, a partner's name) | To prepare the text content you request. Kept in your history; you can delete items one by one |
| Photos uploaded for text content | To prepare the text content you request. Deleted once the content is ready |
| Profile photo | Optional. Stored on our server in a reduced size and shown only within the app; if you make it onto a leaderboard it is also shown to other players on the leaderboard and Champions screens (can be turned off). If you do not upload one, an avatar made of your initials is used. Deleted when you remove it in Profile or delete your account |
| Support messages, content reports, email address (optional) | To reply to you. The email field in the support form can be left blank |
| Device information (model, OS and app version, language, time zone, notification token) | To run the app and send notifications |
| Usage statistics and crash reports | To see which games and features people like and to fix bugs |
| Advertising data (advertising ID, ad interactions, approximate location derived from your IP address) | To show ads and to verify credits earned from rewarded ads. Premium members see no ads |
| Purchase information, credit activity, invite code | Credit and subscription management, invite rewards, fraud prevention |
| Game round records (game name, mode — including the daily challenge —, score, duration, credits spent, date) and cheat detection flags | To deduct credits for game rounds, keep your credit activity accurate and build the game leaderboards. In cases such as an unusually high score or an unrealistically short duration, the round is automatically flagged as "suspicious" and kept off the leaderboards. Stored on our server linked to your account; deleted when you delete your account |
| Leaderboard visibility preference | To apply whether your name and profile photo are shown on game leaderboards (see "Game leaderboards" below) |
Data that stays on your device
The following data is kept only on your phone and is not sent to our server. Because it never reaches us, we cannot see it and cannot restore it.
- My Journal: your mood, sleep and dream entries, calendar and insights are stored encrypted on your device; they do not leave your device
- Assistant: the assistant runs on your device and is rule-based; your conversations, typed or spoken, are processed on your device and the conversation content is not sent to our server. For voice, see "Microphone and speech recognition" below
- Game streaks and badges: some game indicators, such as your streaks and badges, are stored on your device. Game round records, including your scores, are kept on our server as described in the table above and are used for the leaderboards
Microphone and speech recognition
Talking to the assistant by voice is optional. The microphone is used only when you tap the microphone button on the assistant screen and only if you have granted permission; the app does not listen in the background.
- What you say is converted to text using the iOS speech recognition service (Apple Speech). This service is provided by Apple; Apple may process your voice on your device or on its own servers, and Apple's privacy policy applies to that processing
- Fal Day does not store voice recordings and does not send your voice to our servers. The recognized text is processed only on your device as part of the assistant conversation
- The assistant's spoken replies are generated with your device's text-to-speech feature; you can turn spoken replies off on the assistant screen
- You can revoke microphone and speech recognition permission at any time in iPhone Settings → Fal Day; you can keep using the assistant by typing
Game leaderboards
Each game's leaderboard (all time, this week and the daily challenge) lists the top 100 players; the top 10 are shown with a crown. For a user who appears on a leaderboard, the following is shown to other users: a shortened form of your name, i.e. your first name and last-name initial (for example "Yusuf G."; if you have not entered a name, a player name such as "Player #1234"), your profile photo if you have uploaded one or otherwise an avatar made of your initials, your best score and the date that score was achieved. The same information may also be shown in the Champions section of the Discover screen (each game's number one and the star of the day). Your full name, birth details and other profile information are not shown.
You can remove this visibility at any time by turning off Profile → Privacy & data → "Show my name and photo on leaderboards". When it is off, your rank is kept and your scores appear on the leaderboard and in the Champions section as "Hidden player", without your name or photo. Scores flagged as suspicious or hidden by an administrator are not shown on the leaderboards. When you delete your account, your leaderboard entries are removed as well.
Data we do not collect
- We do not store photos uploaded for text content. They are deleted once the content is ready; if an error leaves a file behind, the daily cleanup deletes it
- We do not ask for an email address to create an account. We only get your email if you type it into the support form or email us
- We do not ask for your phone number, address or identity information
- The app does not request location permission and we do not track your device's location. Your city of birth is used only for the birth chart. The ad network (Google AdMob) may derive an approximate location from your IP address
- We do not access your contacts, messages or your whole photo library. Only the photo you pick from the gallery reaches the app
Third parties your data is shared with
| Organization | What for | What is shared |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase Cloud Messaging | Sending notifications | Device notification token |
| Google Firebase Analytics | Usage statistics | App installation ID, screen and session events, device model, OS version; the advertising ID where available |
| Google Firebase Crashlytics | Crash reports | Crash log, device model, OS and app version, installation ID |
| Google AdMob | Rewarded and banner ads | Advertising ID, ad impression and click data, approximate location derived from your IP address, device information; your Fal Day user number to verify rewarded ads. In regions where Google requires consent, such as the EU/EEA, a consent form is shown first |
| RevenueCat | Purchase validation and subscription management | Your Fal Day user number (not your name or email) and purchase information |
| Apple (App Store) | Payments on iPhone; optional Sign in with Apple | Transaction verification data; your Apple user ID if you sign in with Apple. Apple handles your card details; we never see them |
| Google (Google Play) | Payments on Android | Transaction verification data. Google handles your card details; we never see them |
| Anthropic (Claude) | AI-generated text content: not in use at the moment | No data is sent at the moment; text content is prepared from a pool of pre-written texts. If this is turned on in the future, photos uploaded for content and profile information will be sent only to generate that content, and this page will be updated beforehand |
We never sell your data. We do not share your name, birth details, scores, text content or photos with advertising companies; AdMob receives only the advertising data listed in the table. On iPhone, the advertising ID is used only if you allow it. On Android, you can delete or reset your advertising ID in your device settings (Google → Ads).
Retention period
Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, profile photo, game records, text content, credits, purchase history and support conversations are permanently deleted. Photos uploaded for content are already deleted as soon as the content is ready, so there are none left to delete. The account deletion page lists the records that remain after deletion and can no longer be linked to you. We keep those records for up to 6 months, then they are deleted automatically.
Your game round records and the leaderboard entries built from them are also deleted together with your account; after deletion you no longer appear on any leaderboard.
Data collected by Firebase and AdMob is tied to your app installation and advertising ID rather than your account, and is deleted according to Google's own retention periods.
